Lenovo Yoga 13 Ideapad: flexibility and Compactability

The Lenovo Yoga 13 idea pad has an excellent ultra book design concept. Lenovo has positioned itself in the forefront of innovative technology and design manufacturing providing strong, reliable and powerful machines over the years. (See review of the Lenovo S400 here)
So why exactly makes this laptop stand out? It has extremely flexible hinges that allow the screen to flip 360 degrees making it one of the best and simplest hybrid tablet-computers available in the market. Its convertible status is spectacular since it provides 4 modes that capitalize on consumer content for easy creation and sharing. This is because it perfectly incorporates the windows 8 usability that goes perfectly well with the many applications and eases use of the windows 8 O.S due to its tablet status. ( Have you read about the Dell Inspiron Duo Hybrid tablet? )

The specs :
  • 8 hours battery life, 4 cell lithium polymer with 54Wh capacity.
  • 3rd generation Intel core i7 processor, dual core, 64 bit computing with Max turbo speed 2.6 GHz
  • Windows 8 64 or windows pro 64
  • Intel HD graphics 4000 integrated
  • 13.3'' 1600*900 resolution HD+IPS display that is capacitative multitouch.
  • Memory of 4GB, 8GB DDR3, 128GB SSD
  • Weight of 1.54 kg
  • 1.0 MP HD integrated webcam
  • USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, combo jack, 2-in-1 card reader (SD and Micromedia card) and HDMI
  • Bluetooth 4.0 and Lenovo 802.11 wireless b/g/n
  • 10*7 cm track pad that allows pinch-to-zoom, two finger scrolling and clicking

Some of the preloaded applications include Skype, one key recovery, McAfee antivirus and eBay. It retails for $1000. On my part, too much an amount for the specs, but then again, you pay for the architecture and creativity does not come cheap. You can order one to be shipped since am not aware of a retailer in Nairobi currently stocking it.

World's largest Laptop.

Ok, so it was released close to a year ago at the ceBIT gala in Germany but we are still in awe at the world's largest Laptop. Though normally we wouldn't call it that, because we cannot tell whose lap it would fit on. It is a Fujitsu, Siemens production.

It is difficult to understand how one would type on it, by playing hopscotch maybe? Or what would happen if the cover happened to close when one was on the keyboard. Anyway, we doubt it has been made for practical functionality but more of exhibition value. All in all, its a remarkable technology production.

The Bluetooth Virtual keyboard : Simply a work of TechnoArt.

Infra red and Laser technologies were used to bring about the Bluetooth virtual keyboard. All you need is the micro size device that will project the entire 63 full size keyboard. Detection technology is used to ensure that as soon as you punch the virtual keys, the information is sent to the Bluetooth device that has been connected such as laptops,PDAs, iPad and smart phones.

The portability of this device is particularly catchy because unlike the normal or folding keyboards, it can be carried around with much ease and accommodates up to 450 characters per minute. it contains a rechargeable lithium battery and since it has its own power supply, it doesn't drain other devices. the battery life lasts for about 2-3 hours. It can be used with all sorts of smart phones, Symbian and Palm OS and Windows.

It even has tapping sounds. how cool is that!!

Dell Inspiron Duo Hybrid Tablet: Lust at first sight!!

Sometimes i can be lustful...well, everyone CAN .... This is the intense wanting feeling that one gets when they see something physically appealing to them. It's the exact feeling i had when i saw the dell Inspiron Duo Hybrid tablet. i thought it was made for me. This laptop doubles up as a tablet as well as a notebook.

Before seeing it, i had been in the middle of intense prayers asking God to provide funds for a nice tablet i had seen. I did not need the tablet at the time but was extremely in lust with the way it looked. Its sleekness, HD graphics and portable size made me go gagaaaaa!!

You can make out my reaction when i saw this hybrid model. It has a 10.1 inch screen that can be flipped and transformed into a tablet. How cool is that? This provides an instant access to videos, e-books and music in a faster way.

I then set off to look around for it. At avenue electronics, the last price was KES 49,000 and they had one left. I was a bit sad because i was not intending to use all that money on an intel atom dual processor since the same amount could fetch me a more powerful gadget. However, thanks to the power of window shopping, i stumbled across a place that was selling it for kes 38,500. That is a REALLY good price since they would normally go for $545. Made me a tard bit skeptical though. Even though it comes in a range of colors such as red, foggy night and martin blue, the stores only had the foggy night one.

However, i decided to go with the Lenovo S400. you can have an interesting read as to why the latter captured my attention by clicking here.
Some of the disadvantages of the convertible include:
  • poor battery life
  •  a sluggish touch functionality
  • a non removable battery
If you are a lustful person who would prefer beautiful and captivating looks to functionality, this is a good buy ; probably the best option for a cosmopolitan who loves to be trendy and has very basic functionality requirements such as checking emails and storing documents.

A mother reading this should seriously think of getting this for their daughters, or a caring boyfriend should get it for the girlfriend. You can customize the back of the screen to bring about  interesting designs such as these; Enjoy!!
fancy, huh?

I am grateful that you stopped by!!

Lenovo S400 review : A Beast!!

I stumbled upon the Lenovo S400 when i was looking for a replacement for my old crashed Samsung. At first, i was lusting for the Dell Aspiron convertible : duo hybrid tablet. but as soon as i saw the Lenovo S400, i fell in love :-). for more information on the dell Aspiron hybrid, click here.

The sleekness and functionality of this gadget makes it the ultimate laptop suitable for any programmer, developer, designer, blogger or business executive. Some of the basic specifications include:
  • Intel core i3-2365m processor (4 processores)
  • 1.4 Ghz default clock speed (*4)
  • 4.00 GB RAM
  • 500 GB HD
  • 14 inch screen
  • a generous touchpad that is multi touch capable.
  • A chiclet accutype keyboard
  • Intergrated bluetooth version 4 and Wifi
  • USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI out and Card Reader
Other interesting features include the Intel graphics Card that will be of particular importance to gamers. The one key recovery system is very helpful when it comes to data backup and recovery processes. it also has a quick start key that lets you surf the web, photo manager, Skype and music player at the instance of a button before the windows operating system is loaded.

Its looks are breathtaking. apart from the fact that it weighs approximately 1.8 kgs, it is extremely slim and is therefore loved because of its ultraportable nature. It comes in crimson red and silver colors. The super sleek profile and a very sleek metallic finish is captivating to the eye.

This is the ultimate Ideapad. I happened to purchase mine at the Ibrahim's Store opposite Stanley hotel. It was retailing for 45,000. Its initial price was 50,000 but lucky for me, they had a sale and were selling laptops 5,000 less if they cost more than 40,000 shillings. I had window shopped around at Avenue Electronics next to I&M bank, Bright Electronics and a couple of computer shops on the Ibrahim's lane but they were either too lame (did not have it in their stores), or did not offer a good bargain.

One thing that is wanting about it is the battery life. It was indicated that the battery life would last for about 4 hours, which it did in the earlier days. However, right now, sustaining 3 hours is a miracle. Because of its slim nature, the battery quality had to be compromised.

Lenovo Group Limited is a China company that manufactures servers, laptops, computers and handsets. it offers some of the best quality products in the market. to have a look at more of their gadgets, click here.
